Mental health
With references to World Health Organization: WHO (2022), Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships and shape the world we live in. Mental health is a basic human right. And it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development.
Mental health is more than the absence of mental disorders. It exists on a complex continuum, which is experienced differently from one person to the next, with varying degrees of difficulty and distress and potentially very different social and clinical outcomes (World Health Organization: WHO, 2022).
Healthy lifestyle
A healthy lifestyle is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early. This means eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, avoiding tobacco and drugs and getting plenty of rest.
Healthy lifestyle behaviors and habits promote mental health and wellness as it can be used to both prevent and treat mental health conditions. Therefore, mental health and healthy lifestyle are closely intertwined. A healthy lifestyle can significantly contribute to positive mental health while mental health issues can impact lifestyle choices. If one wants to preserve his brain, he needs to have a healthy body.
